Ivy Shares Notes from 1993 Jenny Lind Ghost Ranch Workshop

Member Ivy Heymann of White Oaks Pottery near Carrizozo reached out to Amber Paz-Csibi eNews Editor, after the last eNews, to offer her photos and notes from a long ago NMPCA workshop at Pot Hollow, Ghost Ranch.

It was June, 1993, and the presenter was Jenny Lind, known for her painterly representations of animals on dishware, created with her own slips mixed with mason stains.

Amber sent Ivy's email to me and I enthusiastically said yes - I hadn't taken the workshop but had been a fan of Jenny Lind's style back in the day.

I wondered about both of these accomplished potters, Ivy Heymann and Jenny Lind. And found websites for both of them. Ivy's studio is in White Oaks, a small place near Carrizozo, and has a great internet presence. Be sure to read the 2001 Ceramics Monthly article about Ivy. Jenny Lind's last gallery has a website, with essay by her about color. It also notes that Jenny passed at the age of 68 in 2011.

Ivy sent her photos, class handout, roster, and notes right away. I realized this view into the past would provide both useful reference to Lind's technique, along with a view into the old Pot Hollow, as the new Pot Hollow has started being used for classes again. Thus this blog post was created, with many thanks to Ivy Heymann for sharing!
